The "Strawship" in Mt Torrens SA

Sean and Mara wanted an Earthship style home and loved the idea of strawbale walls and rammed earth walls... so this Earthship inspired design includes these wonderful eco-construction materials while retaining the essence of the amazing Earthship design features and principles:

• north facing sunroom ("greenhouse")
• indoor greywater garden - grow bananas indoors year round - with wastewater!
• underground cooling tubes to keep the home cool, naturally, during the summer
• a super-insulated building envelope (strawbale walls) with plenty of interior thermal mass (rammed earth walls) - this will help keep the indoor temperature stable and nice - cool in summer, warm in winter - without the need for air-con etc.
• minimal windows to east, west, south - yet lots of big double glazed windows facing north - put windows where it makes sense!
