PPE, Tools & Other Equipment
Here is a list of PPE and other stuff we are asking you to bring to the workshop.
It works best if you are responsible for this because if you buy it you know it will fit your body, style, personal preferences etc, or you may already have it.
Also consider having a "backup" if you lose, or wear out the first item, especially regarding the general purpose gloves.

PPE (personal protection equipment)
- General purpose gloves; you may prefer leather riggers gloves CLICK HERE or fabric, rubber coated gloves CLICK HERE. Or both! Wear these when you are using hand tools such as shovels, sledge hammers and power tools. If your rubber coated gloves are a very good, tight fit, you can use them for bottle cutting using the wet tile saw.
- Sturdy shoes (foot armour) - steel cap boots are optional, see link below.
- Sun hat CLICK HERE
- Water bottle CLICK HERE - this is an important "safety" item that will help you manage your hydration levels!... it is also recommended you bring some hydralyte or similar which helps with rehydration. CLICK HERE
- Sunscreen - your favourite type
OPTIONAL
- High-vis vest or shirt. CLICK HERE
- Steel cap boots CLICK HERE
- Ear plugs CLICK HERE
- Rubber (PVC) gloves for working with mortar, concrete and lime render. CLICK HERE
- Over-boots (to keep the dirt out if you are wearing shorts) CLICK HERE
- Gum boots - for stomping in concrete (floor slabs), or for stomping cob (if you don't feel happy with going bare foot in the cob - minor cuts from straw has happened in the past.)
NOTE: Any other special PPE that you need will be supplied
Tools (Optional)
- Tape measure 3m, 5m or 8m are good sizes (pick one or go mad and get all of them) CLICK HERE
- Sharpie pen (one to lose and one to use!) CLICK HERE
- Pencil (for writing in your notebook and marking on timber and other building materials) CLICK HERE
- Notebook (for taking notes, any size that suits you) CLICK HERE
- Tool belt - great if you don't have pockets CLICK HERE
- Multi tool - can be handy but not essential CLICK HERE
- Knife - can be handy but we will have some CLICK HERE
Clothing
Be preapared to be in the sun ALL DAY. Take into account your skin's, "attitude" toward the sun. If you are the type of person who gets sun burnt then light-weight, long sleeves and long pants are recommended. And of course a wide brim hat.
Backpack
We recommend that you bring a small backpack or similar. It will be a handy way to keep your water bottle, PPE, note book, and other stuff (camera, phone, etc?) organised on the construction site.
Camping Gear
Please refer back to the main workshop webpage for a list of suggested camping items. Setting up a "good" campsite can make all the difference to getting a good night's sleep and having a good time. This will be different for everyone.
