Earthship Pomonal VIC 2026
A bushfire resilient tiny home
This tiny Earthship is the bedroom and lounge for a multi-building dwelling. Dee, the owner wanted to live life connected to nature and had purchased some shipping containers with a view to using them as part of her housing solution, rebuilding after a bushfire destroyed her home in Pomonal VIC in 2024.
The kitchen is in one container, the bathroom in another, and a pergola structure links them together and leads to the Earthship which is the main living area and bedroom. There is a walk in robe area at the rear of the Earthship and a hand basin in the sunroom. Greywater from the handbasin will irrigate the indoor garden in the greenhouse in true Earthship fashion.
The majority of the construction work was done by a team of 40 wonderful people over 5 weeks; the main structure of the building was completed in this time including the earth-covered, bushfire-resilient roof. Internal natural finishes will be finished in the following weeks by a small team led by an expert natural builder.
Acknowledgement to the team that led the build:
Jerrard Byrne - licensed builder (Creations in Parallel)
Jason Nap - earthship expert
Kate Procter - earthship expert
Earl Boyd - natural builder
Naomi Campbell - bottle wall artisan
Thomas Dodd - licensed carpenter
Martin Freney - designer, workshop coordinator
And gratitude to the 32 legends who came from all over Australia and turned this idea into reality. Thank you sooo much!
