The Suburban MB
MB stands for mini-berm... the way this suburban design fits on a small block (30m east/west by 20m north/south) is with a smaller than usual earthberm. Another advantage of the mini-berm is the ability to install small south facing windows for extra light and cross-ventilation.
What is a berm? It is the "thermal engine" of the Earthship providing protecting from bushfires and extreme outdoor temperatures. It is earth, mounded behind the building, against the wall, and where the earthtubes (ventilation pipes) are buried.
This design was developed for Candy Disch at the Narara Eco Village NSW.
The design can be easily adapted to include more bedrooms and bathrooms.
